Dedicated Hosting Disclosed

When we speak of hosting servers, there are 3 basic categories - shared hosting servers, VPS (virtual web hosting servers) and dedicated hosting servers. Shared web servers accommodate lots of clients and therefore the resources per user account are limited, virtual private server packages give you more configuration liberty, but also affect other VPS hosting servers on the hardware node if utilized unwisely, and dedicated servers give you the freedom to perform everything you please without messing with anyone else.

Why would you need a dedicated hosting server?

Dedicated servers are commonly much more high-priced than shared servers or VPS hosting servers. Why would anyone, then, use them? The reply is quite simple. If your company has a regularly visited web site, or just has very explicit web server configuration requirements, the most logical choice is a dedicated server. For somebody who is willing to invest in security and reliability, the higher price is not a problem. You receive full server root access and can utilize 100% of the physical server's resources without anyone else availing of these system resources and interfering with your sites.

Hardware configurations

Most shared hosting vendors, incl. us at BigHost, offer several different hardware configurations you can select from on the basis of your necessities. The hardware architectures offer different types of processors, a different amount of cores, different RAM memory and server disk drive sizes and different monthly bandwidth quotas. You can select a hosting Control Panel, which is convenient software if you want to use the dedicated hosting server for web hosting purposes only and prefer not to use a Secure Shell client for all the modifications you will be making. We provide three kinds of hosting Control Panel software - Hepsia, DirectAdmin and cPanel.

The hosting Control Panel of your preference

If you are a self-confident Linux OS user (our web servers are running on Linux or other Unix-based Operating Systems), you could manage your dedicated server through an SSH client exclusively. That, however, could be awkward, especially if you decide to give full root privileges to somebody else who has less technical experience than yourself. This is why having Control Panel software pre-activated is a smart idea. The Hepsia web hosting Control Panel GUI that we provide does not give you root privileges and is mainly suitable for somebody who owns a lot of websites that absorb lots of system resources, but would rather administer the online portals, databases and electronic mail addresses via a user-friendly hosting CP. The DirectAdmin and cPanel Control Panels, on the other hand, grant complete root-level access and include 3 access levels - root, reseller and user. If you plan to resell web hosting packages rather than using the web server just for yourself, you should choose one of these two.

Web server monitoring and backup services

Last but not least, there is the issue of monitoring the dedicated hosting server and of backing it up. In the event of a predicament with your dedicated web hosting server, such as a non-responsive Apache or a network downtime, it is advisable to have some sort of monitoring system enabled. Here at BigHost the system administrators monitor all dedicated servers for ping timeouts, and, if you order a Managed Services upgrade, they monitor the individual services on the dedicated hosting server too. Backups are also an extra feature - the hosting supplier offers you data backups on our own backup servers. You could choose a kind of RAID that would permit you to store the same data on two disk drives as a precaution in the event of a server hard disk failure, or in case someone whom you have given access deletes something unintentionally.
